We are said to live fast-lives in a fast paced society and so we can happen to feel burnt out. Very often our list of things-to-do in one day is much longer than the fuel we have to keep going. This is why more and more people turn to energy beverages as a means for extra energy. They simply believe the promises these quick pick-me-ups give like to provide them with an energy boost that lasts for hours. So are they really as good as we think? If you are really tired but still have much to do, it might be just what you are looking for; some people even consume such beverages to substitute a full-night’s rest. Though this may be enough for you to rush to the shop for a can of Red Bull immediately, but we also tried to find more reasons of buying it. They are:

  • Mental alertness: People often report an increase in mental alertness when they drink energy drinks. Perhaps too much physical energy can cause a positive effect on mental awareness as well;

Well, when we start discussing these types of drink it seems that the bad outweighs the good. Here we should remember several things – energy drinks are not to be taken only because you feel sluggish as well as they are not for everyday consumption, these beverages are also not for small children, pregnant women and those with heart problems. When people forget about these they can have some serious health problems (i.e. heart attacks, seizures, dehydration, psychological disorders, diabetes) or even death.

Speaking on energy drinks cons we should also remember the following:

  • you can get addicted to them (actually you can get addicted to caffeine that is one of the main ingredients);
  • they contain excessive sugar and calories and can often lead to getting overweight;
  • some people claim they taste awfully (many disagree);
  • and finally, they are rather expensive and one can usually costs same as several bottles of water.
